March 15, 2005 -- Kenneth J. Other experts leading this discussion include Dr. Falk Billion, Keith Haslam and Ayhan Yeginsu.

Career summary

Born in Scotland, in 1965, Ken Moodie studied at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh to obtain a BA Honours degree in Landscape Architecture in 1988. Following a year of research with the University. He joined the practice of Hawtree & Son in 1989 and established his own firm, Saltney, Chester-based Creative Golf Design, in 1998.

"The European Institute of Golf Course Architects are very pleased to be represented at the second INVgolf Investment Forum 2005 to be held in Belek, Antalya, Turkey," says Ken. "With environmental and sustainability issues becoming increasingly important considerations for developers of golf and real estate projects, the involvement of properly qualified golf course architects, which the European Institute of Golf Course Architects represent, will be increasingly important. The success of a project depends on building a top-class team of experts who can work closely in the master-planning of a development and throughout its implementation to ensure that the quality of the detailing matches the excellence of the original concept. The eastern Mediterranean countries represent a growth area in golf course development and one in which the expertise and knowledge of our members should be called upon."

Ken became an Associate of the British Institute of Golf Course Architects in 1992, having undertook a two-year study programme in golf course architecture run by the Institute, and then a full Member in 1997. When the European Institute of Golf Course Architects was established as a merger of the three pre-existing European organisations (BIGCA, AFAG and ESGA) in 2000, he was automatically accepted as a Member of the new organisation and continued his role on Council. Since then he has held the posts of Honorary Treasurer, Chairman of the Professional Development Committee and a member of the Education Board and Environment Committee.

In 1997 Ken helped to devise the curriculum and syllabus for the Institute's Professional Diploma in Golf Course Architecture and ran the course for four years in a part-time capacity, while developing his golf course architectural practice. He has spoken at a number of events including the Clubhouse Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham, the Excel Exhibition in London, and seminars for the English Golf Union. He also addressed the subject of Golf, Housing and the Environment at the EIGCA Conference at Queens College, Cambridge in 2001.

In April 2004, Ken Moodie was elected Vice President of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA).

During 15 years in golf course architecture, Ken has been involved with a wide variety of projects in the UK and throughout Europe in countries such as France, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. He has worked on over 20 new golf course developments and advised more than 60 golf clubs on course improvement work, including two Open Championship venues and a number of Open qualifying courses.
