Photis Photiou, Chairman, Cyprus Tourism Organisation, to speak at the 2003 European GOLF Investment and Real Estate Conference
November 25, 2003 -- Photis Photiou, Chairman, Cyprus Tourism Organisation, will deliver a speech titled 'Cyprus, An Emerging Golf Destination' to a distinguished audience at the 2003 European GOLF Investment and Real Estate Conference & Exhibition in Athens on November 29, 2003. Career summary Born in Larnaka, Cyprus in 1960, Photis graduated from the American Academy in Larnaka in 1979. Following his military service, during which he served under the rank of second lieutenant, he pursued his academic studies in Accounting and Marketing in the United States. In 1992 he became member of the Institute of Financial Accountants. He worked professionally in various international auditing firms, like PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte Haskins and Sells. He worked also for the Inland Revenue Department of the Cyprus Ministry of Finance. In 1992 he transferred to the private sector. He is since practicing as an auditor and business consultant. His involvement and activities are not limited to his professional capacity. He has involved himself early on in a multitude of important facets of political and social life. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Central Committee, as well as a member in the Executive body of the Democratic Party (DIKO). He is also a Vice-Chairman of the AEK Football Club in Larnaka, Cyprus, a member of the Larnaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a member of the Lions Club. As a Board of Directors member in major Semi Governmental Organisations, Photis has had the opportunity to acquire invaluable administrative experience in fields considered as being vital in the development and modernisation of the island. He served as Board of Directors member in the Cyprus Electricity Authority (1993 - 1999) and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (2000 - 2003). On August 1, 2003, he was appointed Chairman of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation by the Council of Ministers. He took part in many international conferences and seminars in issues relating to his profession, the European Union, energy, tourism and other financial topics. He submits articles in the Cyprus local press on a range of issues, with emphasis on financial topics.
