Ransomes can trace its origins back over 200 years to 1789 at the end of the first industrial revolution. A gifted engineer named Robert Ransome settled with his family in Ipswich and by 1832 had acquired the licence to manufacture the first mechanical lawnmower. In 1902 Robert's grandson, James Ransome added a petrol engine to one of their mowers, changing forever the way the world would cut grass. Across the world, Ransomes Jacobsen products are used for turf maintenance on almost every recognised Open Championship golf course. Ransomes Jacobsen also markets a range of golf cars, personnel and small utility vehicles manufactured by its sister companies E-Z-GO and Cushman.
